AMSOIL Premium 5W-40 Diesel Oil Shear Stability Test
AMSOIL comes out on top when compared to 4 other popular 5W-40 diesel oils. Even with 4% fuel dilution, AMSOIL's sheared viscosity was still able to stay within the SAE 40 grade, where all of the others decreased to SAE 30 grade. This is very important for diesel owners with 2007 and newer diesel engines because these models are known to suffer from additional fuel dilution.

The OEMs are continually trying to increase efficiency and decrease emissions, but a huge majority of the techniques used negatively impact motor oil and oil filtration. Testing Shows 16 Percent of Oils Fail API SM Specification
According to the Institute of Materials (IOM), testing shows that 16 percent of the 250 off-the-shelf motor oils that claim to meet the API SM specification do not. According to the IOM general manager in Midland, Mich., 40 motor oils failed at least one of the specification limits. They also gather samples from the marketplace and do testing, but are still seeing oils that are off-spec which carry the ILSAC and API marks on the labels.
